On Our Way!

THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to Trips For Kids for the Bailey Hundo charity event. I am told that donations with the "for Tom Zirbel's Bailey Hundo ride" designation are pouring in. Well maybe not 'pouring' in, but I'm definitely impressed with the level of giving thus far. For each person who has taken the time and money to contribute - a thousand thanks!
The course has been posted for the ride: 40 miles of single track and over 14,000 ft of climbing. And I'm happy to report that my mountain bike training has begun. I bought a cheap front wheel and tuned up my Cannondale Jackyl as best as I could and went out on a technically easy route the other day (Marshall Mesa) and crashed about 10 min. after hitting the trails! Seems my pedal clearance isn't as high as on the CX bike and I clipped a pedal on a rock going about 15 mph. Sprawled out on the ground with a few minor cuts and bruises, I decided that was enough mtn bike training for day 1. One ride, one crash. It can only get better from here!

Tom, thanks for your efforts raising funds and awareness for Trips for Kids Denver/Boulder. I met a Bikes Belong staffer last week at the IMBA Summit who enjoys reading your blog and was inspired to contribute to TFK.

Its good to hear that you are putting your talents to such a great cause. Raising money for charity is something we should all be more involved in. And you obviously enjoy helping kids. With your network of friends and ability to write, maybe you will inspire all blog readers to help out with similar events all over the country.

Yeah Tom! Stoked you're getting knobby with it! Can't wait to ride together this summer.

Tom! I was at the first stage of the Tour of California today and I was hoping you would be there until I realized that you weren't because you were unjustly accused of doping, which none of my family believe and we think you were framed. I was so disappointed because I see you every year and you're always so nice to all of your fans! The last 2 years I have seen you, you have graciously given me your autograph as well as greet me with a smile and I would like to thank you for that! I hope to see you out at the AMGEN Tour of California sometime in the future and I hope that this is all found to be a horrible mistake and you can sue someone's a** and get back to what you love to do! My dad and I always predicted you as a winner! Thank you again for being such a nice guy... my family loves and supports you all the way! :]

Hey Tom, Not exactly sure where an appoapriate place to make this inquiry would be so I figured I'd put it here. I had just heard of a friend buying an extra set of wheels off of a pro and got to thinking about you. I am looking to get a time trial bike and we are about the same size and was wondering if you had an extra one laying around you were looking to unload. If so let me know and we could work something out, if not it was worth a shot! haha, anyways, good luck in life and in clearing your name, you've always been one of my cycling idols.

Hi Jason,
sadly, I do not currently possess a TT bike. I reluctantly gave back that beautiful FM1 at the end of the season. Good luck with your search and thanks for the support!
